Common questions

What are the best native plants for my Sydney garden?

The best ones are the plants that grew naturally where you live. Pick your plant community in the finder to see them. All 232 plants are checked against PlantNET, the official NSW plant list.

Which native groundcovers suit Sydney gardens?

Choose "Groundcovers & ferns" in the layer filter, then narrow it down by your plant community.

Which native plants attract birds and bees?

Use the "Habitat/pollinator plants" layer for wildflowers, herbs and orchids that support local insects. For birds, add clumps of dense or prickly local shrubs such as hakeas, banksias, tea-trees and wattles. Small birds like fairy-wrens shelter in them, away from cats and bigger birds. Small-flowered plants suit small honeyeaters better than big hybrid grevilleas.

Where can I get native plants?

Tubestock from a local native nursery, or from your council's plant giveaway.
